Should I modify Bisharga ( ঃ) after conversion?

In old ASCII based Bangla systems (Bijoy, Proshika, Proborton, Alpona) a lot of people used Bisharga instead of colon, as it looks better. The problem arise when you convert them, a lot of places (especially after numbers) there comes a round dotted circle like this: ১ঃ

How should we treat with it?

-Some people use Bangla for display/printing purpose. They don’t care data integrity. if I modify the Bisharga with colon, or add a ZWJ before it, they really don’t care. And actually they will like it.

-Some people use Bangla in Database/spreadsheet. They obviously don’t care how glyphs look, rather what matter to them is Data should be valid, and intact. Suppose you are making an spell checker and have Bangla words in your dictionary. Would you like the Converter to change the defined words in database without your consent?

I would say convert them to colon.
All those typist types অ + া to make আ. What would you do? Leave them as is (with ZWJ) or replace such sequence with আ.

It is cool, but only in display. It is otherwise semantically incorrect (in storage). If Microsoft incorporates a spelling/grammar checker for Bangla text later on, it will not function correctly with bishorgo instead of colon.



It may be possible to substitute the standard colon glyph of the font with an alternate glyph (that looks like a bishorgo) in the font by creating a GSUB lookup under an appropriate feature tag with VOLT. I haven't done the analysis of how Uniscribe handles punctuation characters, so I can't say for sure if such a method can be implemented.

We've our own character. Then why should we use colon instead of bishargha. And one most important thing is, Microsoft is not the Standard, Unicode is the standard

I can give you one example, In wikipedia they write ড় with nukta... even Microsoft also suggests to use the nukta... But, I think it is difficult for us to change this manner... We are happy with ড়... Isn't it??? :?

And I think, Changing/Converting Roman glyph is a bad idea...
