I am not being able to type in properly in Firefox 6.0.2 - characters/words don't display correctly. Is there any fix available? FYI, I use Windows 7 Pro.

Many thanks for helping.

Thanks WarlorD. But, this solution pertains to FF4 while I have v 6.0.2. sad.gif
I'd tried this particular fix out before posting my initial query on the forum. But, it didn't solve the problem. There seems to be a general problem w.r.t. displaying unicode bangla fonts. The transliteration tool inside GMail is also not working. Websites like parabaas.com is not loading correctly whereas, those of Anandabazar, Prothom Alo are indeed loading.
If it might help the prospective solution providers - I use Siyam Rupali font (obtained from this website) installed via the in-built font-fixer of Avro v5.1.

Please help!

This solution is applicable to any FF from version 4 to now. they have not fixed the problem.

Though you have made Siyan Rupali as default system font. FF has its own default font.

It would be better if you provide a screen shot of the problem you are facing.

I have followed the instructions provided in the thread where problems with FF v4 were discussed.
Adding Bengali as a display language and choosing Siyam Rupali as the default font hasn't solved the issue.
I have attached a screenshot of the parabaas.com homepage so that you can get an idea of the display issue I am facing.

I researched the problem via Google search (search query = bangla unicode fonts firefox 6) and it seems that the following discussion pertains to the problem I am facing.

https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/866427

A solution suggested here seems to have worked for the thread-starter but, I have no idea how to implement it in my computer.

In case it helps you, I have attached a screenshot of Firefox 6's "about:config" page after running the filter "beng". If this is the right approach, could you or someone else, please tell me which parameter(s) would have to be changed in the browser setting and more importantly, how & to what?

Many thanks again for your time and help.

yup!! its the same problem. Please ensure that you follow the procedure several times. and after each time saving the settings, please restart your browser until the problem is fixed.

even then if you fail to correct the problem, then we could forward to the alternate approach.

but bear in mind that if you update your firefox, the problem will return.

I tried the procedure several times and I also rebooted the computer a few times after selecting the font and the language options. But, it doesn't seem to be working for me. sad.gif

Is there a more direct/surer approach to solving the problem?

Many thanks again for your time & help.

go to the page of browser which you have given screen shot.

Double click on the values of every entry with font names, and then you can either delete the whole list and write down the font you want to use (use exactly the font name that is in the font folder). or you can add the font name at the very beginning of the list.

Lets see how things go. smile.gif

This has worked!
