Is there a such letter as "জ়"? In hindi there is ज़, but I didn't expect there to be a "জ়". I think this is an impossible character, such as there are impossible conjuncts. We can not type this in Avro either. When, and where can জ় be used? Is it a real banjonborno?

How do we insert this in Avro then? I just found it somewhere on the internet, and copied and pasted it.

Well, at current release, you can't. Current version of Avro Keyboard doesn't cover ancient or rarely used Bangla unicode characters from Bangla code page. At the next release, we will extend the keyboard layouts to four layers, where we will keep additional characters.

Tips for you:
1. Open Character Map (Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Character Map)
2. Select SolaimanLipi font
3. Double click on "জ" (U+99C - Bengali Letter Ja) then double click on "়" (U+9BC - Bengali Sign Nukta)
Now you get this "জ়"

Here is a shortcut for typing in MSWord + Wordpad (Not in Notepad or IE):
1. Type "জ"
2. Then Alt+Num 2492 (Hold Alt Key then type 2492 in Numpad)

অভ্র ৪.১ পেলাম। এই মুহূর্তে বিশেষ কিছু পার্থক্য বুঝতে পারছি না। কিবোর্ড নিয়ে একটু সমস্যা হচ্ছিল। তবে মেহদি-ভাইএর কল্যানে সেটা মিটে গেছে।

এই থ্রেডটায় জ় নিয়ে একটা আলোচনা হচ্ছে দেখলাম। আমিও ওটা ব্যবহার করি। কিন্তু অভ্রতে ওটা লেখা যাচ্ছিল না...... এখন কি জ় লেখার কোন ব্যবস্থা করা গেছে ??

(একই প্রশ্ন আমি জার্মান কিবোর্ড থ্রেডেও করেছি। দু-জায়গায় উত্তর দেবার দরকার নেই। এজন্য অসুবিধা হয়ে থাকলে আমি দুঃখিত।)

আমি অভ্র দারুনভাবে ব্যবহার করছি। এটা যে কি পরিমানে সাহায্যে আসছে তার পরিমাপ করা সম্ভব নয়। আমার থেকে জানার পর আমার অনেক বন্ধু ও পরিবারের অন্যান্যরা (ভারতে) এখন অভ্র ব্যবহার করছে।

নুকতা নিয়ে আপনি যে সমাধানটি দিয়েছেন সেটা খুবই দরকারি। কিন্তু দুর্ভাগ্যবশত আমি ফোনেটিক ছাড়া অন্য কিবোর্ডএ সচ্ছন্দ নই। ফলে আমায় ওই character map থেকে কপি-পেস্ট করতে হচ্ছে। ফোনেটিকে নুকতা আনা গেলে বেশ সুবিধা হয়। এব্যাপারে পরবর্তী ভার্শানে যদি কিছু করতে পারেন তাহলে খুবই ভাল হয়।

আপনারা জানেন কিনা জানি না... পশ্চিমবঙ্গের সবচেয়ে বড় বাংলা প্রকাশনা আনন্দ পাবলিশার্স বেশ কিছুদিন ধরে সর্বত্র জ় ব্যবহার করছে। আর এদের বানানবিধি অনুসরন করার একটা ঝোঁক এ-বাংলায় দেখা যায়। তাই ভবিষ্যতে অন্তত পশ্চিমবাংলায় জ়-এর ব্যবহার বাড়লে অবাক হওয়ার কিছু নেই।

ya ananda is using this letter widely. but i have not seen them using it on 'desh' (correct me if i am wrong) of which i am regular reader. i have seen use of it on their magazines like unish-kuri, etc which are aimed at the trendier youth.

one example is the z in sania mirza - here they are using জ় in place of z

Letter "z" represents য & য-ফলা। It is not possible to replace this letter. I'm a bit confused where to place this জ় .

No, at least in Bangladesh, it is not being used anywhere. I guess in India not every newspapers use it.

আমি ২-১ টা point দিতে চাই...

১ নিপন যেটা জানিয়েছেন সেটা ঠিক। আনন্দ কিন্তু এখনও পর্যন্ত সব জায়গায় জ় ব্যবহার করছে না। যেমন -- আনন্দবাজার-এই এখনও আমি জ় দেখিনি। কিন্তু পুজোসংখ্যা আনন্দমেলাতে দেখলাম। ঠিক জানিনা এই জ় নিয়ে ওদের নীতিটা কিরকম... হয়ত ধীরে ধীরে আন্যান্য পত্রিকাগুলোতে চালু করতে চাইছে (দেশ, সানন্দা ইত্যাদি)

২ জ় আনার জন্য Docwho যে প্রস্তাবটা দিয়েছেন সেটা নিয়ে মেহেদি-ভাই নিসচই চিন্তাভাবনা করছেন। আমার একটা বিকল্প প্রস্তাব আছে। z বা zz দিয়ে জ় আনতে অসুবিধা হলে J টাও ভাবা যেতে পারে। ইংরাজি কিবোর্ডে Z এবং Shift+J (Capital J) ---- দুটোতেই "য" আসছে। তাই শুধু Z -টাকে য-এর জন্য রেখে Shift+J (Capital J) তে জ় আনা যেতে পারে। তাহলে,

J (small j) --> জ

Shift+J (Capital J) --> জ়

----- এভাবে হবে ব্যাপারটা।


আপনারা ভেবে দেখুন কিভাবে সম্ভব।

আমি shift+J টা জ় এর জন্য বলেছিলাম কারন আমার কিবোর্ডে (এবং সম্ভবতঃ আপনার সুইডিস কিবোর্ডেও) Y এবং Z-এর অবস্থান ইংরাজি কিবোর্ডের সাথে মেলে না। এই দুটো "কি" নিজেদের মধ্যে জায়গা বদল করেছে। তাই Z কে আবার একটা নতুন character দিয়ে ব্যাপারটা জটিল করতে চাইছিলাম না। আর জ / জ় = j / shift+J এটা বেশ natural combination মনে হয়েছিল...

হ্যা, নিশ্চয়, আমি এইমাত্র জার্মান কিবোর্ড লেআউটটা দেখলাম - সেটা qwerty'র বদলে qwertz। But I wanted to ask one thing: The layout says for example [ h = হ ]. Now if somebody is using a different keyboard to the US English keyboard, can you make it so that wherever the "h" is, "হ" comes up? Like on my keyboard, when I write বাংলা, the apostrophe (') is on the letter "ä". Can you make it so you can choose your keyboard layout or something similar, and then, wherever the apostrophe is, in my case, next to the right shift button, an apostrophe will show up? So wherever the "z" is on any keyboard, য-ফলা will show up, and if you write a capital Z, জ় will be displayed.
